SBC Family,

Having finished Paul’s second letter to the Corinthians we will be returning to Acts 19:21ff to give the background for Romans which was written in Acts 20:3 when Paul was in Greece (Corinth). To do this we need to back up and review what we have learned so we see the doctrinal themes Paul has already taught in previous letters. Romans is super-important and a theological education in itself. I want to review from three perspectives.

1. From the perspective of chronology of Paul’s life.
2. From the perspective of Paul’s missionary journeys
3. From the perspective of Paul’s letters looking at the key word, key idea, and doctrinal themes

I’ve attached three documents we will be using to gain these three perspectives. It can take many years to understand the canonical formation of the NT and Paul’s writings. I’m trying to organize this material and assist in putting the pieces together as they were progressively revealed.

Let’s not forget what we’ve learned. The Bible contains so much information no one can hold it all together simultaneously. We have to review so we can remember. Remembering is a key to successful Christian living.

I will be asking you questions when we look at the third perspective of Paul’s letters looking at key word, key idea, and doctrinal themes, so sit close to the front so we can have this conversation. I’ll put the attachments on the PPT and TV screen, but you should have these documents as your own, and take a close look at them beforehand if you have time, especially the second one with Paul’s letters from the vantage point of key word, key idea, and doctrinal themes.

Grace to you,
Jeremy
