This is a cobalt mining site in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The DRC is the world’s largest producer of cobalt, supplying around 70% of the global demand. A significant portion of the country’s cobalt is extracted by small-scale miners, who often work under poor and unsafe conditions.

Cobalt industry workers are forced to dig by hand in 12-hour shifts under horrific conditions, earning as little as $1 to $2 per day. Meanwhile, this critical mineral powers expensive iPhones, Tesla cars, and nearly all rechargeable electronic devices on the market.

More than 40,000 children are forced to work in these dangerous mines.

In the name of clean and green energy, countless injustices are inflicted upon the people and children of poor nations in remote mines around the world.
