Marco Rubio on the arrest of Turkish student Rumeyza Ozturk: ‘Let her return to her country’.
Senator Marco Rubio weighed in on the arrest of Turkish student Rumeyza Ozturk, who was detained for her involvement in protests inside a university campus in the US.
‘We cancelled her visa. Let her go back to her country. She received a visa to study, not to incite riots and take over buildings. Go do the rebellion in your country! Not here,’ Rubio declared, making clear his rejection of the participation of foreigners in demonstrations that disrupt public order on US soil.
The case has sparked controversy, with some defending the young woman's freedom of expression and others backing the senator's stance on keeping foreign students who engage in radical acts of protest.
