What General Conference Used To Sound Like

This is a talk titled The Love of our Father by the Apostle John W. Taylor son of the 3rd prophet of the Restoration John W. Taylor.

This speech was given in the Salt Lake Tabernacle about 1888.

Both John W. Taylor and his fellow apostle Matthias Cowley resigned from apostleship in 1906 due to political pressure from the Government and the other apostles. Among those called to replace them was the future president of the church David O. Mckay.

John W.Taylor was actually excommunicated in 1911 and was not reinstated as an apostle until David O. Mckay became the prophet who had him rebaptised posthumously in 1965.

It is interesting to see that members then were reluctant to live the gospel back then. It is interesting to hear what this apostle of our church had to say to them. His words seem very relevant today.

Certainly it is a different style than the teleprompter sanitized love mongering general conference talks that we have demanded from God in the modern day.
