March 30th in Christ

On March 30, 1533, Thomas Cranmer was consecrated as Archbishop of Canterbury, England's highest religious post.
Appointed by Henry VIII, Cranmer granted the king's annulment of his marriage to Catherine of Aragon, initiating the English Reformation.
He became its chief architect, authoring the first Book of Common Prayer and shaping Anglican doctrine.
This event is significant for understanding the break from Roman Catholicism and the establishment of the Church of England.
On March 30, 1858, Episcopal minister Dudley Tyng spoke to a rally of 5,000 men in Philadelphia, burdened for the salvation of husbands and fathers.
He declared, “I would rather this right arm were amputated at the trunk than that I should come short of my duty to you in delivering God’s message,” leading to over 1,000 conversions.
Two weeks later, on April 19, 1858, Tyng died from injuries sustained in a farming accident, with his last words, “Stand up for Jesus, father, and tell my brethren of the ministry to stand up for Jesus,” inspiring the hymn “Stand Up, Stand Up for Jesus.”
This event is notable for its influence on American evangelicalism and hymnody, bridging Christian and Protestant traditions.
