How Old is The Earth Really?

From a Christian perspective, the age of the earth isn't just a scientific puzzle—it's a matter of understanding both Scripture and the natural world through God's lens. While many point to carbon-14 dating, it's important to remember that carbon-14 is unstable and begins to break down the moment an organism dies. It also has limitations: it can only date things thousands of years old—not millions.

So, what does the Bible say?
By counting the genealogies in Genesis, Chronicles, and the Gospels, many scholars trace the earth's age to around 6,000 years. But then comes a verse that often causes confusion: “A day is like a thousand years…” (2 Peter 3:8). But don’t stop there—the same verse also says, “…and a thousand years is like a day.” It’s poetic, not mathematical. It shows God's timeless nature, not a formula for interpreting time.
