Of course, Latter-day theology teaches that planets eventually die but Mother Earth will be celestialized or translated. I think she wants to keep and has authority granted to her by her Father in Heaven to keep these materials and the Sun is willing to sacrifice Himself to achieve this end. Most Fathers would even if they knew they weren't going to make it right away, I mean to be celestialized and get into heaven or in the Celestial Kingdom.
