So this would be the first time Apple's dropped the iconic vertical and square layout. This is huge, but not cuz of aeshetics. Instead, the layout change would have a huge knock on effect on another Apple product line.

The Apple Vision Pro. Right now iPhones can record spatial footage for the Vision Pro. But you have to turn the phone sideways, so these 2 cameras can act like "eyes". That's what enables videos to feel "spatial". If the camera bump switches to this, that could mean Apple's cutting the iPhones off from the Vision Pros. Or they think we'll use Vision Pros to watch spatial TikToks. So yeah, rumours probably fake.
