Inside an Illegal Narco Submarine

It's designed to transport drugs from South America to the US and Europe. Over the last 10 years US authorities have reported the capture of over 200 of these. But there are many more out there. Today I wanted to have a look inside.

So compared to military subs, narco subs will be of a much poorer quality. Cuz they only need to survive 1 trip to be worth the investment. But these intercontinental trips can last 2 weeks. That means for 2 weeks a crew sits in tense silence, trying to avoid detection.

But how do they avoid detection?
Well there are clever engineering choices that go into this. For starters it is a good idea to replace the traditional diesel engine, with a quiet electric engine. But you'd also want to avoid radar, so best to replace metal exteriors with fiber glass. Experienced captains will also ditch the GPS, which emits signals, for a compass.
