Intersection Of Golf And God-Life

In that way, whatever happens to one member happens to all. If one suffers, everyone suffers. If one is honored, everyone rejoices. You are the body of the Anointed One, and each of you is a unique and vital part of it. 1 Corinthians 12:26-27

Life and golf seem to intersect for me at times. I learn things from my golf game that help me be a better person in my spiritual walk with God. I sprained my ankle and could not play golf for a couple of months. When I got back on the course, I was so happy. I was thinking about how hard it is to play golf with a sprained ankle, that is stiff and hurting. It is near impossible to do it. We need our ankle, it is a big part of our golf game.

In the human body there are many parts and organs, each with a unique function. And so it is in the body of Christ. For though we are many, we’ve all been mingled into one body in Christ. This means that we are all vitally joined to one another, with each contributing to the others. Be devoted to tenderly loving your fellow believers as members of one family . Try to outdo yourselves in respect and honor of one another.Romans 12:4-5,10

I thought about it a lot, how one part of our body, not working well, affects all of our body. It is the same with the Church, so very similar! God was showing me as I played golf today, how much it is similar to needing our
whole body to be healthy, it is the same with the Church. The Church needs everyone, every part of the Body of Christ is important to the game, as in golf, without my ankle being healthy, my golf game was nill. Even as I tried to come back as my ankle was healing and practice on the driving range, my drive was off. It wasn’t until my ankle was totally healed that my game was back on track.

Just as the human body is one, though it has many parts that together form one body, so too is Christ. For by one Spirit we all were immersed and mingled into one single body. And no matter our status—whether we are Jews or non-Jews, oppressed or free—we are all privileged to drink deeply of the same Holy Spirit. A diversity is required , for if the body consisted of one single part, there wouldn’t be a body at all! So now we see that there are many differing parts and functions, but one body. 1 Corinthians 12:12-13,19-20 TPT

If one part of the body isn’t working, then the whole game is off. It is the same in the Church, if one part of the church is corrupted, the whole Body feels it, the whole body hurts and can’t function well enough to be healthy. We need each other in the Church, and we need the gifts God has given to each of us, working together in harmony. We are all gifted by God and the Body of Christ works so well when we are all using our God given gifts. Our game will be so off if we don’t all work together, we want to bring glory to God, we want our game to be “on”… for everyone to be serving exactly where they need to be serving and playing well, fighting the good fight of faith and finishing well.

Like I said, we can learn a lot from God, even on the golf course, He is speaking. Awe-GOD! Enjoy serving God this week and enjoy your golf game. God bless ya.
