Two nurses have been celebrated for protecting newborns in China’s Ruili city after a maternity centre near the border with Myanmar was heavily shaken by the deadly 7.7-magnitude earthquake on Friday.

Xiong Jielan and Li Xiaoqing escaped unhurt from the incident, as did the babies in their care.
