Fathers make sure you give your kids lots of physical affection. It’s not just something a mom should do. Their lives depend on it.

Studies show physical affection is critical for the healthy development of children with benefits extending far into adulthood.

Giving physical touch actually changes a child’s DNA in addition to faster growth, stronger immune system, boosts in self esteem, reduced stress, and enhanced brain development.

Children that do not receive affection suffer from delays in motor development, lower levels of growth hormone, emotional disturbances, and higher levels of stress and anxiety. They also have pervasive feelings of loneliness and abandonment.

My kids are 11 and 9 and they still constantly want to hold our hand, jump onto our lap, and give us kisses and hugs.

Not only is this important for the biological benefits listed above, but it is teaching them how to love. It is teaching them how to show their future family love and affection. Teaching them how to not be that cold, emotionless, shut down force in the house but rather be a warm light.

Give hugs, hold their hand, wrestle them, cuddle them, and show them love. They want it and need it.
