Jeff first came to Russia 12 years ago, just before his legendary bout with Fedor Emelianenko. That match was pivotal in establishing Monson as an iconic figure in the MMA scene. On that day, Russian President Vladimir Putin personally approached Jeff and told him he fought like a true Russian. 🇷🇺 From that moment on, Jeff's life in Russia began.
He was granted Russian citizenship, became a member of the local parliament, and actively supports Russian soldiers in the conflict zone.
The Russia-Ukraine conflict greatly influenced Jeff's decision to renounce his American citizenship. Unfortunately, this makes it difficult for him to travel back to the States to see his older children, but Jeff felt he had no other choice. This was his way of protesting against U.S. weapons supplies to Ukraine. 🚫
