🏛️ Early Church Perspective:
* Baptism in the early Church was called a death and rebirth.
* Catechumens would remove their old clothes, enter the water like a tomb, and rise into new life.
* St. Cyril of Jerusalem: “You were led by the hand to the holy pool of divine baptism… you died and were born again.”
* Martyrs weren’t afraid of death because they’d already died to the world.
* St. Paul, St. Ignatius, and the monastics spoke of daily death as the path to true joy.
