Understanding Communication Styles Through Personality Types
Presented by Arif Gilany
The Power of Communication
• The biggest mistake we make: Treating people the way we want to be treated—rather than how they need to be treated.
• Key strategy: Ask questions to uncover a person’s personality type.
• Remember: The person who asks the questions controls the conversation.

The Four Personality Types
1. Socializer
• People-oriented and energetic
• Achievement-driven, but thrives on connection
• Expressive, animated, and emotionally driven
• Strong focus on relationships and accents (tone of voice)
• Pitfall: May miss details in pursuit of connection
2. Director
• Task-oriented and results-driven
• Impatient, wants summaries and fast answers
• Influenced by business success (e.g., Forbes mindset)
• Often seen as a “dictator” in communication—direct and blunt
• Dislikes small talk or “How are you?” chit-chat
• Pitfall: Can come off as cold or dismissive
3. Analyzer
• Task-focused and detail-oriented
• Cautious, logical, and systematic
• Prefers data, accuracy, and time to think
• Often found in engineering, accounting, or technical roles
• Loves solving problems—especially ones that don’t talk back
• Pitfall: May get stuck in analysis paralysis
4. Relator
• People-focused, calm, and steady
• Sensitive, empathetic, and relationship-driven
• Often found in nursing, counseling, and social services
• Values loyalty, connection, and shared experiences
• Pitfall: May avoid conflict or resist change
