Taiwan is facing a labor shortage, and the minimum wage is just a safeguard. Taiwan's protections for workers go beyond just the Labor Standards Act, including the Labor Pension Fund, Labor Insurance, and the more familiar National Health Insurance (NHI).
For the Labor Pension Fund, the worker contributes 30%, the employer contributes 60%, and the government contributes 10%.
For the National Health Insurance, the company covers 60%, the government covers 10%, and that’s how the health insurance is funded.
Companies with more than 50 employees are required to have a union. For companies with fewer than 50 employees, the government doesn’t mandate it but still recommends having one. The union’s rights can be equivalent to those of a company’s shareholders’ meeting, holding an equal level of authority.
