“Protecting people” is how NDP “differs” from rivals in retaliation against Trump tariffs: Singh

Asked how the NDP differentiates itself from its rival parties in Canada’s federal election campaign trail when combating U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariffs Sunday, party leader Jagmeet Singh said, “protecting people – that’s what we’re offering.”

Singh said he's “not hearing about the people” from either the Liberals or Conservatives, promising his party will not only protect renters amid “uncertain” economic pressures, but help with other bills by improving Canada’s employment insurance offerings.

Singh also shared sentiments from other party leaders that the government needs to “build up our country,” by building more infrastructure and creating more jobs by using strictly Canadian materials.

“We’re being hit in a war we did not want,” Singh said of Trump’s “unprovoked” tariffs – which came into effect on Wednesday.
