Rep. Jasmine Crockett recently served as the keynote speaker at the 125th anniversary celebration of Grace Baptist Church. During her speech, she shifted the focus to politics, addressing topics such as illegal immigration and mass deportation. Speaking to the predominantly Black congregation, she remarked, “The fact is, ain’t none of y’all trying to go and farm right now.” The audience responded negatively to the comment, rejecting its implication. Crockett then pivoted, referencing slavery by saying, “We done picking cotton,” and “You can’t pay us enough to go find a plantation.” Her remarks have drawn widespread criticism, with many accusing her of disrespecting Black history and the legacy of slavery in an attempt to justify open borders and the exploitation of cheap labor through illegal immigration.
