The band's induction was one of the most contentious in Rock Hall history, with some members not attending the ceremony.
Deep Purple is considered a harbinger of hard rock and paved the way for metal groups with their breakneck style.
The band had been eligible for induction since 1993 but was overlooked for several years.
The current lineup of Deep Purple performed at the induction ceremony.
Rolling Stone reported that Deep Purple's induction was one of the most contentious in Rock Hall history.
Billboard reported that the band's co-founder Ritchie Blackmore would not be attending the ceremony.
