As a proud Canadian, I'm happy to say that my country has been a member of the International Criminal Court (ICC) for 25 years. Canada signed the Rome Statute (the treaty establishing the ICC) in 1998, and officially ratified in July 2000. The ICC has jurisdiction over crimes such as genocide, crimes against humanity, war crimes, and the crime of aggression. Canada has been an active supporter of the ICC since its inception and played a key role in drafting the Rome Statute.

The ICC was always going to be wholly ineffective against powerful states when there were conflicting interests.
