Today on Cupchairs Reacts, I’m checking out Jerry June by Colossus of Destiny—a ferocious, atmospheric metal track from the France-based band that blends the weight of Gojira, the emotional depth of Deftones, and the sludge-meets-prog chaos of Mastodon.

What makes this band stand out even more? They produce, record, and mix everything themselves—and it shows. Jerry June is layered, intentional, and raw in all the right ways. From the first scream, it hooks you with a heavy, chorus-led structure, driven by thick guitars, relentless drums, and lo-fi vocals that don’t aim to be melodic—they aim to make a statement.

The production is tight, though personally I’d have liked a touch more low end—but the intensity and balance hold strong throughout. One of my favorite moments is the gritty interlude after the bridge, where the band leans into hard rock territory without losing the heaviness. There’s so much vocal texture here—fry screams, growls, even yell-like layers—and it’s all executed with purpose.

Lyrically, it channels themes of frustration, resistance, and breaking destructive patterns—even if I couldn’t catch every word, the emotion was loud and clear.
