Joel Salatin: The Hidden War on Small-Scale Food Producers

"It's not about protecting people. It's about regulating market access."

Why is it illegal for your neighbor to sell you a few of her homemade pot pies without filling in a bunch of paperwork? Why can you sell potatoes without a government license but you can't sell mashed potatoes without one?

There's a war on small-scale food producers, says regenerative farmer Joel Salatin. Local commerce is being strangled by a morass of regulatory burdens.

"We have choice in the bathroom, choice in the bedroom, choice in the womb, but no choice in the kitchen," Salatin says.

He's advocating for a Food Emancipation Proclamation "to unfetter, unshackle and de-enslave our food system."
