Trump restoring some foreign aid programs

The Trump administration announced that foreign aid programs, mistakenly cut earlier, would be restored. State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce confirmed the rollback of cuts to programs in several countries.

The World Food Programme (WFP) had warned that suspending food assistance could lead to starvation in war-torn regions.

As the U.S. is the largest donor to the WFP, funding for programs in Somalia, Syria, Lebanon, and other countries will be reinstated following lobbying from U.N. officials.

However, some cuts were made due to concerns that aid was benefiting terrorist groups in Yemen and Afghanistan.

The restoration of funding follows an internal reversal by USAID after pressure from stakeholders and a directive from White House adviser Elon Musk, The Hill has reported.

This comes after Trump’s January executive order freezing foreign aid and cutting USAID programs, sparking legal challenges.
