The Pharisees tried to create a conflict between John the Baptizer and Jesus the Christ as both their ministries we expanding. When confronted, John humbly responded that Jesus must increase, and he must decrease. He was not insecure or jealous. His joy was complete when the Lord Jesus progressed in his ministry.
