Professor John J. Mearsheimer is a leading American political scientist and international relations scholar, widely recognized for his influential contributions to the theory of offensive realism. He serves as the R. Wendell Harrison Distinguished Service Professor of Political Science at the University of Chicago, where he has taught since 1982. Mearsheimer is one of the most prominent voices in the realist school of thought, emphasizing the enduring role of power and security competition among states in shaping global affairs.

He earned his Ph.D. from Cornell University and is a graduate of West Point, where he began his career as an officer in the U.S. Air Force.
