On February 27, 2025, around 3 a.m., Harris County Sheriff's deputies responded to reports of a man acting erratically and damaging gas pumps at an Exxon station located at 10303 North Freeway in north Houston. The 36-year-old man, whose identity has not been publicly released, was reportedly tearing apart gas pumps with his bare hands.

Upon arrival, deputies initially found the man compliant; he lay on the ground and allowed one handcuff to be placed on him. However, he soon began to resist arrest, attempting to disarm a deputy by grabbing their Taser. Despite the use of Tasers by both deputies, the man continued to struggle. During the altercation, a female deputy discharged her firearm, striking the man in the torso.

The man was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. One deputy sustained facial injuries during the incident and was also taken to the hospital. The female deputy involved has been placed on administrative leave pending an internal investigation, as per department protocol.
