Pros:
The REAL ID Act wasn’t primarily designed to deter illegal immigration, but it will indirectly affects illegal aliens. To get a REAL ID, you must provide documents proving lawful presence in the U.S., which illegal aliens typically do not have.

REAL ID stems from 9/11. Soooo… yeah. The REAL ID Act, passed in 2005, enacted a 9/11 Commission recommendation to set stricter standards for IDs to prevent fraud and enhance security.

The commission noted that weak ID systems allowed terrorists to exploit vulnerabilities, so the Act aimed to ensure IDs are harder to forge by requiring proof of identity, residency, and legal status.
