To re-cap, we have been in Chapter 41 of the Book of Genesis, studying Joseph in the type, who represents Jesus in the the Anti-type⦠Who having been rejected by His natural born brethren, and having been crucified, raised up as the First-Born Man from the dead in Hades, He is exalted to the right hand of the Father where He now then mediates and awaits the presentation of His Bride (mostly taken from among the Gentiles). And just as in the type with Joseph, all this occurs before He turns again to reveal Himself to His Jewish brethren⦠typed in the next Chapter (Genesis 42, which we will begin next week).
Continuing in the 41st Chapter Anti-typeβ¦
We have undoubtably reached the most critical part of the foundational understandings given by God in type and anti-type out of the Book of Genesis; that of the Ascent of the Son of Man unto the right hand of the Father in the Heaven of heavens. The Anti-type overshadows the very time and meaning in which you and I live today. Therefore, the great importance of our understanding today and applying the Truth in the light of the New Testament understanding is immense and cannot be overestimated as it has eternal ramifications for those who will hear. The underlining great Truth of this understanding is not open for theological debate in the sincere of heart. It is to be seized in the moment it is perceived and believed.
In the last Chapterβs type, Joseph portrays us, the redeemed, as having died on the Cross with Jesus, having been given imputed righteousness, and having βdiedβ with Him we also descended with Him into Hadesβ prison. Then, in this Chapter (Chapter 41), Josephβs being raised/resurrected up by the power and supernatural intervention of God types the now redeemed soul being raised up emblematically from burial with Him in Water Baptism in βold things have passed away behold all things are made newβ (2nd Corinthians 5:17) and then immediately ascending into the βheavenly standingβ before the Father, having now a new abiding union in Christ, and that for living in His Resurrection power in βnewness of lifeβ in righteousness unto holiness. (See Romans 6:4-23β¦ as He walked in newness of life power, so ought we to walk, not allowing the sin nature to have dominion in us anymore/no longer serving sinβ¦ but rather, lending our members to righteousness in love.) What this Water Baptism ritual (to be followed immediately after redemption) and immediate ascension to a heavenly standing before the Father declares loudly, is that the Cross of Jesus was not so much to expose our sinfulness, but to reveal to us our created potential. Removing the power of manβs sin nature over him, that He might expose redeemed manβs lost great value, seen in the Son of Man (being the Son of Man, He was the model for all men to follow, in restoring the image man had lost).
What does this mean? That man (who through Adam, had lost the image of loving sonship) has now been redeemed by God, and in the doing, the old manβs way of thinking and living in self-centeredness, self-preservation, and self-perpetuation are now to be accounted/understood/known to be dead and rendered powerless in us through Jesus the Son of Manβs victorious Atonement. It means that we redeemed believers should live in the provision of the Fatherβs transforming power/grace, accessed by faith energized by love in the new way of living before God unto restored sonship (restoring us to our potential so that His purpose for creating man is satisfied in us; that of βbringing many sons unto gloryβ - Hebrews 2:10). He did not die for you because you were a sinner, to bless you while you are alive, and to get you to Heaven when you die, but to Atone for you, that you might be restored; spirit, soul, and body as a son made in His image. The purpose of the βCrossβ is not near satisfied when we βdieβ with Him on it, but the Atonement is satisfied when His image has been formed in us.
The old manβs way of thinking and living is now accounted/understood/known to be dead and rendered powerless by who? By us, the redeemedβ¦ that knowing henceforth we should not live according to the dictates of the flesh/carnal soul and sensual body, being conformed to this Worldβ¦ but should live according to the dictates of the spirit/Spirit, Who will most assuredly transform us from the old manβs self-centered thinking and doing according to this World (manifest through the body through the lust of the eye, the lust of the flesh, and the pride of living in self-centeredness)β¦ into Christ-like thinking by the renewing of our mind to the Truth found in Jesus and yielding our bodies/members up to Him. βFor though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christβ¦β [2nd Corinthians 10:3-5] This, in the soon coming end when Christ shall return, will prove to have been Godβs eternal perfect will and wisdom as the only means of transformation unto oneness sonship.
What natural manβs heart has been thinking and guiding his whole life by, since birth into this planet, is by mankind considered normal, but is actually 180 degrees from the Truth of manβs heart condition at Creation. And when the now redeemed (as in βback to original purposeβ) unwittingly try to retain and incorporate any of manβs normal/carnal thinking and behavior (religious or secular) into Godβs heavenly economy, it is a blinding/disqualifying thieving lie (lies that we might have wrongly and unwittingly believed for years by accepting some darkness as light or light as darkness). Matthew 6:22-23β¦ βThe light of the body is the eye (of understanding/believing): if therefore thine eye be single (on Me and My words), thy whole body shall be full of light. But if thine eye (of understanding and believing) be evil (being yet self-centered/old man-directed), thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness (preaches anything less than the necessity of our every day transformation in the restored image of love - 2nd Corinthians 11:13-14), how great is that darkness!β
There is a way that seemeth right unto man, that allows him to remain conformed to the Worldβs way of thinking and doing, without loveβs image transformation, but in the end, it will have led those that followed it into disqualifying βdeath.β Generally speaking, this means our understanding, and the ordering of our lives, is being limited to circumstances, past experiences, religious doctrinal confusion, and wrongly appraising Godβs great work through Jesus and who we are in Jesus. We are to begin the race for the βprizeβ where He left off, or where He handed the baton to us redeemedβ¦ free from the power of flesh, sin, and the law. They are to no longer have dominion over us. Please, let us not miss thisβ¦ We are now under the law of the spirit of life in Christ Jesus, raised up in heavenly places, free from the disqualifying bondage of the law and sin. A great liberty wherein rightly understood/perceived, and continually proclaimed by those being Fathered in His love may humbly confidently maintain the walk in the spirit/Spirit and will not fulfill the lust of the flesh. (See Galatians 5:1-16) A liberty where we can run our appointed race, and fulfill the one great calling in our living here on the Earthβ¦ that is, to be transformed and surrendered to an entirely different way of thinking and acting in daily manifesting His image of loveβ¦ and walking in this Earth ββ¦even as He walked.β (1st John 2:6) May this be our goal each day of our lives. If Jesus didnβt say it or do it, we shouldnβt. If our words would not be found in Jesusβ mouth, and our actions would seem impossible for Christ to do, they should not be found in ours. Walking in the spirit/Spirit is about fellowshipping with the Spirit, (Philippians 2:1) and with the Father and Jesusβ¦ and walking in loveβs way as His light in the World, instead of our old self-centered way. It is not so much about always trying not to sin, but daily more and more yielding to the renewed mind in being love unto the Holy Spiritβs transformation from one glory to the next glory. (2nd Corinthians 3:18) This is not license, but liberty. Neither keeping the Law, or licentiousness by critically appraising Godβs goodness, will transform us.
Eternal life from God was breathed into man at Adamβs creationβ¦ he was not an experiment of God, but was created to last forever. It is a part of manβs spiritual DNA. Though man was βdeadβ in the sense of communion relationship with God because of Adamβs sin, yet he was allowed to continue to be born into this Earth; which answers to Godβs Word in Romans 11:29β¦ βFor the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.β See the corresponding creation directive to Adam and Eve in Genesis 2:28 to ββ¦multiply and replenish the earth.β
All mankind are born βdeadβ into the Earth, which means; natural man, being the seed of Adam and Eve, is born separated from God spiritually. Natural man and his spirit are then in a state of eternal βdeath,β condemned in that state forever (unless at some point he is redeemed), and correspondingly is only animated to the degree of eternal perpetuation in living/existingβ¦ in an eternal state of βdeathβ/separation from God, relegated to one place or another that God has made. All mankind will eternally live (as this answers to Godβs own determination at manβs creation of a βliving soulβ)β¦ but their bodies would determinately die under the curse of separation in the spirit-less animated soulical state of the flesh. Adam, having lost the image of God-consciousness, like satan before him, became the image of the contrary nature - that of self-centeredness. Being in that image, it is now natural for a man to walk and act independently from God, tutored in satanβs World, naturally drawing out of the polluted waters of living in spiritual darkness as a carnal soul in life-less self-centeredness, and for the greatest part, manifesting/expressing βselfβ (instead of Godβs image) through his sensual body until he leaves this Earthly Realm.
A βseparationβ/death also holds Scripturally true for the redeemed souls unto God, who having received the gift of eternal life (Godβs divine nature, thereby free from eternal damnation), yet persistently continue to live life generally as they did before redemption. Which is to say, they live according to the self-centered dictates of the βfleshβ/βold man.β But this future βseparationβ/βdeathβ is to a far far lesser degree than the unredeemed, for they are forever βchildrenβ of God. Nevertheless, Scripture calls loss of intimacy with God *βdeath,β which for the untransformed redeemed begins with the loss of that for which we were apprehended; the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus (Philippians 3:7-14)β¦ that of the glory of the First Resurrection and being caught up to be the Bride of Christ, and rule with Him His Millennial Kingdom. (Revelation 20:4-6) (*It is that implied βdeathβ of Romans 8:6 which has the deceived carnally-minded Christian in viewβ¦ βFor to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.β)
Those redeemed who are walking in this life on Earth in deception, or willful ignorance, or resistance to transformation into His image, who continue to drink from the well of self-centeredness, refusing the living waters of loving selflessness Truth will be faced with judgements that include being eternally restricted in their closeness/communion with God. (Hebrews 12:14β¦ βFollow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lordβ¦β Revelation 20:6β¦ βBlessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection (these will experience oneness union with Christ): on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.β Matthew 25:28-30β¦ βTake therefore the talent from him, and give it unto him which hath ten talents. For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not shall be taken away even that which he hath. And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.β)
We have said that created man, being an eternal being, yet βdiedβ/experienced βdeathβ in spirit, losing Godβs image and communion with his soul βin that day he ate of the tree.β He must now die also physically (Hebrews 9:27β¦ βAnd as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgmentβ¦β). Upon death, his animating spirit goes back unto God, his body goes to the grave, and he then becomes a disembodied soul and in a state of spiritual nakedness and corruption. (2nd Corinthians 5:1-4β¦ βFor we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our house which is from heaven: If so be that being clothed we shall not be found naked. For we that are in this tabernacle do groan, being burdened: not for that we would be unclothed, but clothed upon, that mortality might be swallowed up of life.β) He then, having left his βearth suit,β is relegated to the intermediate place of the dead/Hades, which God created in the center of the Earth. And there we (all of mankind) are determined to go, as disembodied souls, and will remain there until the appointed time of one of two Resurrections. In one or the other Resurrection, every manβs βspiritβ and body will come back to him and God will have determined, in the re-uniting, the quality/βstateβ of eternal living for each person (as stated above, for the redeemed, resurrection judgement is not whether he will have Redemptionβs eternal life or notβ¦ that was a settled matter at the Cross. But Scripture is clear that if the redeemed are not found worthy of the First Resurrection, judgement awaits). This promised βqualityβ of eternal life (abundant life), conditioned on living in newness of life while alive on the Earth, answers to Scriptureβs βhope of glory,β which was Paulβs great quest of Philippians 3:7-14β¦ βBut what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ. Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ, And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith: That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;Β If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead (the First Resurrection out from among the dead). Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus. Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended (eternal glory/that eternal quality of life): but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.β (Compare with 1st Corinthians 9:23-10:13 to understand what pressing towards the mark means.)
And see Philippians 2:1-21β¦ βIf there be therefore any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any bowels and mercies, Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others. Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure. Do all things without murmurings and disputings: That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world; Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain. Yea, and if I be offered upon the sacrifice and service of your faith, I joy, and rejoice with you all. For the same cause also do ye joy, and rejoice with me. But I trust in the Lord Jesus to send Timotheus shortly unto you, that I also may be of good comfort, when I know your state. For I have no man likeminded, who will naturally care for your state. For all seek their own, not the things which are Jesus Christ's.β
Paul, in Verse 12 seen above says to βWork out your salvation (of the soul) with fear and trembling.β For more understanding, see 1st Peter 1:3-9β¦ βBlessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you, Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations: That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ: Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory: Receiving the end (goal) of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.β
See also the Book of Revelation, Chapter 20, which lays out the future rewards and consequences for the redeemed.
To be βredeemedβ from the curse of eternal death answers in Scripture to you must be βborn againβ (this time from above). Our βspiritβ being circumcised and revitalized is the gift of the divine natureβ¦ we are then translated from being a citizen of this World in the kingdom of satan, unto that heavenly citizenship as a member of the Son of God/Son of Manβs βBody.β
We may identify with who we are in Jesus the Christ, and now draw upon the power of the new source of life in resurrected and ascended Christ, by denying self, taking up our cross, in continually identifying with who we are in Him and being transformed by the power of the Holy Spirit. Who does in us what we cannot do on our ownβ¦ that is to say, being transformed into Christlikeness, that rivers of living water may come forth in fruits of righteousness. (βVerily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit. He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal. If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour.β - John 12:24-26). Living in maturing selflessness completely takes the place of sinfulness. We are to be identifying with Him while this is being worked out in us, understanding we are βkept by the power of God.β (1st Peter 1:3-5) First, we are justified/imputed righteousness because of what He did. But being transformed, we bear the fruits of righteousness in our spirit/Spirit-led walk. Knowing no good deed or fruit is righteous if Love is not the motive.
Orβ¦. being generally blinded to Godβs finished work in Christ that powerfully allows for His transformation purposes in us, we redeemed may continue to live in self-centeredness. βFor if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die (again, not eternal death, not a present death, but a future judgement of loss of intimacy with God in sonship): but if ye through the spirit/Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body (our body manifests our heart condition), ye shall live.β (Romans 8:13-19) What is being said isβ¦ if we arenβt loving, we are not being transformed. John said: βBeloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.β [1st John 4:7-11]
We are not talking about a warm and fuzzy feelingβ¦ but the realities of love as described in 1st Corinthians 13 manifesting every day in our lives. (Love suffers long, and is kind; it doesnβt envy; it is not puffed up, it doesnβt seek its own, it is not easily provoked, it thinks no evil; it rejoices in the truth; it bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, it endures all things, and never failsβ¦) We are to incorporate Christlikeness/love/the image of God in all areas of our lives. We cannot expect transformation or think we are transformed by attending Church or by reading our Bible. We sincere redeemed have not, in this most critical spot, rightly grasped Scriptureβs portrayal of our great value in Godβs eyes and embraced His great love unto transformation by going βall in.β We have not experienced, for the greater part, the power of communion with Him when we redeemed unto sonship get our minds renewed and aligned to Scriptureβs Truth of the necessity and the freedom from βselfβ experience and tap into the transformation power back into His image of love. When we embrace it, we will stop living on the fence. We wonβt allow self-centered darkness to obscure our light. We will lovingly be all about what God wants without straining to be. We wonβt allow other things to take priority over spending time in communion with Himβ¦ knowing wasteful activities, even religious ones, are thieves of transforming power.
We redeemed may continue living religiously, possibly for our entire lives, having latched on to many self-justifying excuses in pride and pity for ourselves (which simply says; we do not want to die) as to why we are what we are and do what we do, and say what we say, and react as we react. Having let lifeβs circumstances and the way people have treated us, or are treating us, dictate our disposition/hearts and shape us in a life of self-centerednessβ¦ instead of identifying with Jesus and what He did, and deny self, and follow Him in loving faith. When we are living for self, we are living without grace/the power of the Holy Spirit flowing into our souls for transformation. Living in the World and retaining the Worldβs thinking means we are of the World. And unknowingly, because no grace/power for transformation is flowing, we grow weary in well-doing, grow frustrated, and settle into behavior modificationβ¦ which bears no fruits of righteousness (though we may do good works in His Name).
Many sincere Redeemed are in a vain struggle to overcome the flesh in the energies of self-centeredness, always and forever trapped into identifying themselves with sin, and unworthiness instead of identifying with Him. Unaware of the Truth and their βstanding,β they are hesitant to proclaim what the Word declares about them (thinking it would be presumptuous, which it would be if from the wrong heart motive. - βThey that observe lying vanities forsake their own mercy.β). We are not rightly identifying with the finished work of Jesus. We have not seen that the Son of Man has changed our βstandingβ before the Father, and that our need is to see who we are in His finished work by renewing our mind to the Truth of His great love extended to us in Christ, and surrendering to the work of the Holy Spirit in transforming us from the old image into His loving image through continual communion with the Father, centered around the Wordβs empowering teaching of what a believer isβ¦ what he believesβ¦ which is a new way of thinking and being to modern-day believers. When we identify with His love for us, in the purpose of sending His Son, that of restoration of that which was lost (His image being formed back in us), instead of just looking at ourselves as just forgiven sinners, we now begin to see our great value in His eyes. And βknowingβ this, we begin to see the demise of man, his fallen nature, and lovingly surrender without wrenching ourselves to the βwood shed.β We begin to lovingly, in faith of transformation, deny βselfβ in all its wicked forms, and willingly take up our cross and follow Himβ¦ all the way to the heavenly places.
The vast majority of the Body of Christ ignorantly in selfβs darkness continue to draw upon the carnal soul of self-centeredness (with the will-gate closed) and wrongly think whatever βChristianβ activities they are doing (praying, giving, attending Church, going on mission trips, Bible studies, etc) are signs of being transformed into the new man. (We must come to grips with the reality that the image of love is the only gauge of our being transformed.) There is no grace/power of the Holy Spirit attained while maintaining yourself in self-centered motives of lukewarmness. That is taking His Name in vain. It is devaluing the purpose of His Atonement. We must know Whose we are, that we are not our own, we are bought with a great priceβ¦ to restore us to our great value, that thinking that becomes the rich soil of righteous fruits of loving others, in that now we see through the eyes of the Father the value of all others. And can from the heart say: ββ¦forgive them Father, they know not what they doββ¦andβ¦ βhelp me be a light in their darkness.βΒ
Rebirth from above has opened up a new river of water to the βheartβ that will bring cleansing to the βheartβ if the redeemed soul will identify, in loving faith, with the Word and embrace its Truth of transformation power, regardless of our past or present circumstances, old reasonings, emotions, and decisions. For the new man to be Fathered, matured, and transformed into His image, he must be continually in communion with the Father, Son, and Holy Spiritβ¦ centered aroundΒ the light of the unadulterated Word of the Truth of His great love, and willingness to restore us back into His lost image, and in that revelation light, willingly and progressively surrender all of his soul/heart to the amazing restoration plan of God.
Let us note that any βChristian doctrineβ that allows for any βconformingβ to the World, and not transforming us redeemed into His image, in order that we might walk in this World as He did, is to be shunned. This is in harmony with Proverbs 4:23β¦ βGuard your heart with all diligence, for out of it flow the issues of life.β
It should also be noted that it does not require a lot of introspection to be an overcomer if we, as Scripture declares, reckon ourselves dead to sin, the old man, and the law. Knowing God is for usβ¦ in that itβs His goodness that leads us to repentance. Amd knowing that sticks. Itβs a very small amount in comparison to our power-infusing communion with the Father centered around Jesus; our model for living as βlittle Christ like ones.β Living then in boldness/confidence and constant testimony of Christβs Blood Atonement, and loving not our lives unto death, having been released from the Prison of βself.β Having a βstandingβ before the Father never before realizedβ¦ where sin will not be imputed to βbelieversβ who have the Word alive in them producing daily fruits of righteousness in the soil of loving faith. We canβt have spiritual growth if we embrace self-centeredness. We embrace the power of His Resurrection. If we can grasp it, this will set us free. We will stop cycling in sin. Weβll be on a different plane; one that allows us to be transformed into His image. βBut we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.β
Paul prayed in Ephesians 3:16-19 that they would be established (rooted and grounded) in love. He prayedβ¦ βThat he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.β
