EXO 12:12, “On that same night I will pass through Egypt and strike down every firstborn of both people and animals, and I will bring judgment on all the gods of Egypt. I am the LORD.”
The real meaning of Passover is not just to be a remembrance of the events of the actual exodus, freedom from slavery in Egypt for the Israelites. But it is a foreshadowing of the ultimate lamb of GOD, Yeshua and HIS freeing of man for the slavery of sin. And people call it resurrection Sunday, and that is what the ultimate meaning is. HE IS RISEN! Yeshua rose from the dead!
1COR 15:14, And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith.
Passover = Yeshua became the ultimate atonement, our Redeemer on the Cross. HE became sin while remaining sinless on our behalf.Yeshua is Crucified and placed in the tomb.Feast of First fruits = Yeshua is Resurrected, The First Fruits.Feast of unleavened bread. 50 days after the Resurrection the Holy Spirit was given. Pentecost.
The seventh month in a normal Jewish calendar year is the month of Nisan (called Abib or Abiv in the OT). Passover is celebrated on the 14th day of Nisan at the time of the full moon.
6:1-3, Then the LORD said to Moses, “Now you will see what I will do to Pharaoh: Because of MY mighty hand he will let them go; because of MY mighty hand he will drive them out of his country.” GOD also said to Moses, “I am the LORD. I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob as GOD Almighty (El Shaddai) but by MY name the LORD (YHVH) I did not make MYself fully known to them.”
EXO 6:4-6, I also established MY covenant with them to give them the land of Canaan, where they resided as foreigners. Moreover, I have heard the groaning of the Israelites, whom the Egyptians are enslaving, and I have remembered MY covenant. “Therefore, say to the Israelites: ‘I am the LORD, and I will bring you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians. I will free you from being slaves to them, and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with mighty acts of judgment.
EXO 6:7-8, “I will take you as my own people, and I will be your GOD. Then you will know that I am the LORD your GOD, Who brought you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians. And I will bring you to the land I swore with uplifted hand to give to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob. I will give it to you as a possession. I Am The LORD.”
To the believer in Yeshua faith is still that issue. HEB 11:6 without faith it is impossible to please GOD. We look back on the total freedom the ultimate atonement by Yeshua on the Cross. However, Christians have to understand that the feasts are commanded. LEV 23:2 says it all: “Speak to the Israelites and say to them: ‘These are MY appointed festivals, the appointed festivals of the LORD, which you are to proclaim as sacred assemblies.’”
Shortly after the Exodus, the LORD established HIS Mosaic covenant with Israel. In that Law were the rules for the Priesthood, rules for their calendar, and their holy convocations (miqra = rehearsal). These rehearsals were for the actual real Passover for all mankind, Yeshua and HIS death on the cross, HIS burial HIS Resurrection and HIS ascension.
7 Then they are to take some of the blood and put it on the sides and tops of the doorframes of the houses (dwelling place) where they eat the lambs. 8 That same night they are to eat the meat roasted over the fire, along with bitter herbs, and bread made without yeast.
That is what frees us, redeems us, brings us out of slavery, the slavery of the result of our sin, the penalty of that sin is death (ROM 6:23). We remember the Israelites being freed, because the freedom will come from the tribe of Judah would come Yeshua.
1JOH1:8-10, If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, HE is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. If we claim we have not sinned, we make HIM out to be a liar and HIS word is not in us.
The first Pentecost was at Mt. Sinai when Moses received the law, 50 days after the Passover. 50 is a jubilee number, a new beginning in many ways. 50 days after Yeshua’s Passover (the Cross) was the giving of the Holy Spirit.
The period of counting the Omer concludes with the Feast of Weeks, also called an offering of the First Fruits. This was the day that Yeshua was Resurrected. HE was the First Fruits to the Father. While Passover celebrates the miraculous Exodus from slavery in Egypt, the Feast of Weeks celebrates the giving of the Torah (Law) at Mount Sinai.
