Is therapy a cure all?

Why does the internet constantly tell everyone "go to therapy?" Does one on one therapy help? Or does it hurt in the long run? Those who are trained therapists have even been critical of therapy for many reasons ranging from not being able to relate to giving very tone deaf advice due to lack of life experience.
