1 Peter - Chapter 3

The First Epistle of Peter is traditionally attributed to the Apostle Peter, written to encourage persecuted Christians in the Roman provinces of Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia, which are located in modern-day Turkey. It is dated to around AD 62-63, during the reign of Emperor Nero, with Peter likely writing from Rome (which he refers to as "Babylon" in 1 Peter 5:13). Though this period of persecution was desperate, Peter shows it as being a time to rejoice as well. It was a privilege to suffer for the sake of Christ, just as He had suffered for them. The letter makes reference to Peter’s personal experiences with Jesus and his sermons found in the book of Acts. Peter confirms Satan as being the great enemy of Christianity, but the future return of Christ brings us hope.
