Snapping Turtle's Rugged Journey to Hidden Lake Captivates Nature Lovers!

Snapping turtles, along with other species, emerge from their brumation state in early spring.
These chompers are moving a grooving and shaking off their winter wears. While they do not lay eggs until later in the spring, all kinds of turtles are on the move looking for new territory, nesting grounds, and food.
During the spring and summer, you are more likely to come across snapping or other turtles in roadways. Please give the turtles a chance at a safe crossing by slowing down, keeping an eye on the road, and knowing how to help them.
Getting close to or touching wildlife is never recommended, as it does stress them out and can make them act aggressively. This is also true for turtles, and especially snapping turtles. To avoid hurting the turtle or yourself, watch them cross, giving them time and space to maneuver their way over the roadway. This keeps the stress low for the turtle and avoids injury for all parties.
If you have to move a turtle out of the roadway, do not pick them up by the tail! Turtles' tails are an extension of their spine and damage can end in severe pain or death.
