Alastair Crooke is a distinguished former British diplomat and senior intelligence officer with nearly three decades of experience in global affairs, intelligence operations, and conflict resolution, particularly in the Middle East. He is the founder and director of the Conflicts Forum, a Beirut-based organization dedicated to promoting dialogue between the West and political Islam. His work has been instrumental in reshaping Western engagement with movements such as Hamas, Hezbollah, and other political Islamist groups.

A veteran of the British Secret Intelligence Service (MI6), Crooke served in high-risk environments including Northern Ireland, Colombia, Pakistan, South Africa, and across the Middle East. His diplomatic career included key postings with the European Union, where he acted as a security adviser to the EU’s special envoy to the Middle East from 1997 to 2003. During this time, Crooke facilitated several critical ceasefires, including negotiations during the Second Intifada and the sieges of the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem and Yasser Arafat’s compound in Ramallah.

Crooke’s belief in engagement over isolation led him to found Conflicts Forum in 2004, advocating for a more nuanced understanding of Islamist movements and the ideological foundations of resistance in the Muslim world. He is the author of Resistance: The Essence of the Islamist Revolution (2009), which explores the intellectual and spiritual foundations of modern political Islam.

Recognized for his service, Crooke was appointed Companion of the Order of St Michael and St George (CMG) in 2004 for his contributions to peace efforts in the Middle East.

Today, Crooke is a weekly guest on Judge Andrew Napolitano’s popular YouTube program, "Judging Freedom," where he offers in-depth analysis on geopolitics, U.S. foreign policy, and the shifting power dynamics in the Middle East and Eurasia.
