Myanmar grants amnesty and frees around 4900 prisoners to mark traditional new year

Relatives and friends of convicts serving sentences in Myanmar waited outside jails Thursday to greet their loved ones, after the head of the military government granted an amnesty to around 4,900 prisoners to mark the country's traditional new year, state-run media reported Thursday.
