This is because the Torah scholars are the beloved of God, and we can know this by studying the descriptions of God's beloved in the Torah. For example, those who keep God's commandments are called His beloved, and scholars are the ones who teach us how to keep the commandments. Therefore, we must treat scholars with the same respect and reverence that we show to God.
