Is There a Tie Between Full-Length Albums, and Patience?

I’ve been on an album kick lately.

Picking a musician, or band, and playing an album of theirs start-to-finish.

I think Security, by Peter Gabriel, got me started.

I used to listen to that album non-stop.

I’d play it on a loop, putting the CD on repeat.

Master of Puppets, Defenders of the Faith, Achtung Baby, You Are What You Is…

All complete stories; albums where each song was put in place, because it fits in that slot on the album; it helps make the album a cohesive work of art.

Not all albums are this way.

Some albums have stinkers on them, and back in the days of cassette tapes, you (mostly) dealt with that.

Fast forwarding a cassette gave you zero degrees of accuracy when it came to stopping.

It was easier to just deal with a bad song, than to attempt to get past it.

I think having to deal with tiny little adversities like this, made GenX (and those that came before) stronger.

There’s a fantastic video out there, where a guy bumps into a doorway repeatedly.

At the beginning of each bump, the caption changes: “Born in 1970.” “Born in 1980.” “Born in 1990…”

And as he bumps into the doorway, he goes from strong, and self-assured, to an ending point of “victim.”

It’s hilarious, and accurate.

The more society gives us immediacy, the less we’re able to handle small challenges.

The less we’re able to disagree in peace.

The less we’re able to deal with life, in general.

And that’s sad.
