Plato - Euthyphro

Plato's Euthyphro is a philosophical dialogue that explores the concept of piety and morality. It features a conversation between Socrates and Euthyphro, a self-proclaimed expert on religious matters. The dialogue takes place outside the court in Athens, where Socrates is about to be tried for impiety and corrupting the youth. Euthyphro is prosecuting his father for murder, which he believes is a pious act. Socrates challenges Euthyphro's definitions of piety, asking whether something is pious because the gods love it, or whether the gods love it because it is pious. This question, known as the "Euthyphro dilemma," remains a central topic in discussions of ethics and theology.
