In this video we discuss the identity of Moses, where he fits in the Egyptian records, and what he did before leaving Egypt. To find his identity I used the metrics found in the Bible, and what Josephus said in “The Antiquities of the Jews.” I also used the Ipuwer Papyrus (which is an Egyptian record of the plagues of Egypt) as a hard end for how late these events could have occurred. We also know that there was at least some Hebrew slavery during the late Middle Kingdom period because of the Brooklyn Papyrus 35.1446, which includes a list of slaves with Semetic names, including some which are Biblical Hebrew names, like Shiphrah.

I am about 85 to 90% confident that the names I give here, are indeed the identities of Moses, the princess who rescues him, and the Pharoah who threw the babies in the Nile. But after having examined my logic everyone is welcome to draw their own conclusions.

Given some of the reactions to the previous video, I realize that some people will be tempted to assert there is no evidence without looking at the evidence. Written evidence is evidence, and it is how we know the gross bulk of what we know about history. It is not the opinion of secular (atheist) scholars that the Ipuwer Papyrus and the Brooklyn Papyrus 35.1446 are forgeries (as someone suggested previously). Also, on a more general note, I always make certain to draw a distinction between evidence and the interpretation of evidence, as well as what I know vs what I think. A lot of people get confused about this because most presenters do not distinguish between their conclusions and the evidence, and in public education they especially and particularly do not.
