Near Infrared Reflectivity of Camouflage Uniforms Part I

This is a brief introduction to NIR reflectivity and how camouflage can either stand out or blend in when viewed with night vision devices.

It all depends on how much the dye in the fabric of your equipment reflects near infrared radiation and how closely this matches the reflections off of the materials that make up your environment.

Tested patterns were:

Desert Night Camouflage Parka, Army ACU, ACU Gore-Tex, Mossy Oak Break-Up (Bug Tamer), Mossy Oak Obsession, MULTICAM, Realtree Xtra Green, Tru Spec MARPAT, Woodland BDU, Woodland Gore-Tex

Eagle Industries Becker Patrol Pack, Tru Spec cargo pants, 6-color Day Desert BDUs, Eagle Industries MOLLE chest rig and the bad boy (not me, the gun) that keeps my test area secure.

This was filmed in a suburban backyard. No emails about how it should have been in the middle of a jungle. I don't live in a jungle and neither do you.
