ETERNITY (2014)

Digging through old files and found this. Eternity was originally screened at the 2014 NGF Film Festival, and released on YouTube in October 2015.

"Eternity" tells the story of a lover and her quest for peace. Melissa Taylor stars as the protagonist, haunted by a distant character played by Ben Godwin.

Eternity was inspired by two previous films- “Unforgotten” by Ben Godwin and “Still” by Jake Hilger. It is intended to complete a loosely-tied "desert trilogy" of short music videos sharing similar themes, styles, and characters. Ben, Jake, and Kevin attended film school together. All three films were shot at Anza-Borrego state park and Salton Sea recreation area in California.

Director's notes :

I first started tossing around ideas for a desert music video while on the set of Ben Godwin’s “Unforgotten”. While attending film school in California I had found incredible peace and inspiration in the California deserts, and for a long time I had been thinking of an idea to properly portray that sanctuary as I had experienced it. I started drawing my first storyboards the night after finishing Unforgotten. Originally the film was slated to be much shorter, starring a male protagonist, and the featured song was to be “Far Away” by Jose Gonzalez.
The idea didn’t go very far for the remainder of that year, my inspiration waning. It wasn’t until myself and Ben’s fellow filmmaker Jake Hilger created his masterpiece “Still” that I found my final inspiration.
Since Unforgotten and Still were cut from the same narrative cloth, I wanted to make a third installment taking place in the same “universe”. I thought this would be a fun way for the three of us to compare our individual styles - taking on the same themes and settings but putting our own creative fingerprints on it. Ben, Jake and I had gone to film school together and been making movies since we were young - it was a very interesting experiment, and the differences and similarities in our styles becomes very apparent when watching all three back-to-back, seeing the different ways that the three of us tackled a similar premise, and what the content meant to us personally.

I sought to make this film in an unreal, idyllic type of way. Rather than capture a real scene, I wanted to build up the desert landscape in an imaginary way, almost like a painting.
When I spend my time in the desert, there is a certain unreal, transcendental image of the place that permeates my mind. The desert becomes clear to me in a very romantic sense - the colors brighter, the landscapes sharper, the air cleaner...it sticks with me. Eternity exemplifies this imagery, and, hopefully, can illustrate it to others.
Through this video, I hope that somehow I can share my love for the drylands.
