Parasha Sh'miyniy: Leviticus 9:1-11:47

Aaron and his sons now need to offer up their sacrifices to God, Aaron for his sin of the golden calf, and his sons for any infractions they may have incurred up to now. The people themselves also get a group sacrifice. Tragically, Aarons two oldest sons, Nadav and Abihu, choose to bring alien fire to God's altar, knowing full well that they were not allowed to do this. The punishment is for all to see. Moses then reminds us all that the closer we are to God, the more responsibility we have to keep God's covenant. We also get reminded of what things are clean for us, the laws of kosher, and what things are unclean.
