Its stated purpose is to deliver guaranteed unacceptable damage to coastal territories through extensive radioactive contamination, as well as to destroy ships and naval bases.

The system is designed to bypass all existing missile defense systems, operating at extreme depths with intercontinental range capability. According to Russian military doctrine, it serves as a strategic deterrent against potential aggressors."
