In August 1914 at the outset of World War One British and German troops engaged in it's first major battle at the town of Mons, Belgium. German troops and equipment out numbered the British Forces and a decisive victory for the German force should have been the result. The British forces retreated, but astonishingly casualties were greatly lower than they should have been. In the aftermath of the fighting, reports began to emerge, on both sides of the lines that Angelic beings had intervened on the side of the British.

In this episode we examine some of those accounts and take a look at sceptical explanations, including a lengthy review of the words of Arthur Machen - the man who penned a short story upon hearing of the retreat at Mons and who subsequently penned "The Bowmen" which is often claimed to be the real source of the Angels of Mons legend.
