Dog Water

A dog’s tongue is a highly specialized muscular organ adapted for multiple functions, including eating, grooming, and thermoregulation.
Its surface is covered with papillae, tiny backward-facing spines that help lap water efficiently and manipulate food.
Unlike humans, dogs drink by rapidly flicking their tongues backward, creating a column of liquid they then bite down on.
The tongue also plays a key role in cooling—as dogs pant, moisture evaporates off the tongue’s large surface area, helping to regulate body temperature.
Additionally, the tongue contains taste buds, though dogs have far fewer than humans—about 1,700 compared to 9,000.
