Enid was a girl. The smart daughter of a brickmaker in Turkey, she lived with her mother and two brothers during the rough grueling days when her father not only made mortar from scratch, but also bricks. Working to mix clay, water, and sand; before molding and heating them in a hot kiln to make the bricks for his company, Avci Mortar and Bricks. Nights were then filled with the family joining him for supper before he started his early morning days all over. Enid loved numbers and planned to join her uncle’s accounting business in the spring after taking her finals at the Hebrew school. Mixed with Arab and Jewish sides of her family, she and her brothers Bayram and Hakan were told that in order to be a part of the family business, they must learn both of their native languages.
