Astarexin Red Light Therapy Mat 360 Review
I have used a range of red light therapy products over the last couple of years with mixed results and although I have used a similar but much smaller product, this is my first large mat. With the other red light devices in some areas, the results have been noticeable and good - mild knee and hand arthritis, the skin on my hands, and gum disease. In other areas, there is no improvement - hair loss, weight, sleep, mood or general health.
I am not going to comment here on how well this particular device works from a health standpoint as this would have to be a subjective judgement made over weeks if not months. What might work for me may not do so for you. Instead, I will look at the build quality, construction and operation of the device.
This device features the two most widely used light frequencies Red Light 660nm for surface treatment and Near Infrared 850nm for deeper penetration.
In the rather attractive mid-market product box you receive the red light therapy pad with a protective clear cover, a power cord with inline adapter and controller, an extension strap, dark glasses, user manual and a Storage Bag. Build quality all seems fine, well made and robust with nothing looking likely to fall off or fail anytime soon.
The device is a 31 x 12" padded flexible mat with 360 dual mode embedded LEDs giving 660nm red light and 850nm near-infrared light with a claimed Irradiance: of 100mW/cm2. It has a maximum rated power draw of 180w. It is a medical grade Class II treatment device and is FDA and FCC Certified.
It features an in-line control box with an LED status display with buttons to select the power on/off, operating mode (RL, NLR, RL+NIR), power level (5 stages), timer (10 - 30 mins), and pulsing (always on, 40Hz, 10Hz). There is a generous amount of power cord to make positioning the pad easier than it might be.
Operating the device is easy enough with the buttons clearly labelled and the display screen showing the current selection. Remember that near-infrared light is invisible to the eye and that when NIR only is selected the pad will be on and the LEDs working, so take care not to look too long directly into the pad. The status display panel will show that NIR mode is on.
The product can be used as a mat which you can lay on and turn to treat different body areas. It can also be used to wrap around the legs or upper body for standing or seated use. A clear perspex panel is included to protect the delicate LEDs.
I have to say that the build quality, presentation and ease of this device is first rate and the product does have a premium feel to it. It is simple to operate and after use can be rolled up for storage in the supplied carry bag and unlike with some products I have tried everything fits easily inside. As regards features, these are pretty much what you would expect from an entry-level RL device - all the key features are here but lacking a few high end ones such as a greater range of frequency selection, and wireless or voice control.
One of the main selling points has to be the price at the time of writing reduced from an already low $259 to just $159 has to make this a great buy for first time or even more experienced Red Light Therapy users.
