Michael Yon Interview with Romanian Presidential Candidate Călin Georgescu

Michael Yon interviewed Romanian presidential candidate Călin Georgescu via video link from Argentina late in 2024. The interview was conducted a few months before the Constitutional Court of Romania (CCR) ruled in March 2025 that Georgescu ineligible for the presidency of the southeastern European country. This happened after Georgescu won the most votes in a December 8, 2024 first round ballot, signifying the Romanian high court's nullification of an electoral outcome. The high court's decision and the flimsy pretext for cancelling the result of the first round ballot citing alleged Russian interference via the social media platform TikTok (which only a small percentage of Romanians use daily) was criticized by Vice President JD Vance during a speech VPOTUS delivered at the Munich Security Conference. Vance said the nullification of an election did not reflect American values and billionaire Elon Musk called the Romanian high court's ranking judge 'a tyrant'. Now George Simion a good friend of Georgescu's is carrying forward the banner of his political party with a platform of keeping Romania, which is a member of the EU and NATO, out of the Russia-Ukraine War. Unfortunately for the Romanian people, the country's geostrategic position on the Black Sea is indispensable to the British and French among others should NATO send an occupation force to the Ukrainian port city of Odessa, located in the southwestern Ukraine.
