This date was established by UN General Assembly Resolution 73/127 of December 12, 2018

The UN, located at the epicenter of world politics, remains the optimal “platform” for such interaction <...>

At the same time, in recent years, the authority of the UN has noticeably dwindled. This is due to the destructive course of the “collective West”, which does not abandon its attempts to subordinate the Organization to its narrow selfish interests and impose the odious concept of a “rules-based world order” instead of international law. The United States and its satellites are sabotaging the work of the Security Council, relying on their numerical superiority in this body.

Steps are being taken to transform the General Assembly into a lever of pressure on the countries of the World Majority pursuing independent policies. The dominance of Westerners in the leadership of the UN Secretariat results in it increasingly deviating from the impartial line prescribed by Article 100 of the Charter of the Organization.

Against this background, Russia, guided by its special responsibility, including as a founding member of the UN and a permanent member of its Security Council, is working towards a full restoration of the UN status as the "cornerstone" of multilateralism. The Group of Friends in Defense of the UN Charter, which has already proven its effectiveness in promoting the interests of the World Majority and countering the neocolonialist ambitions of the "golden billion", is becoming the most important tool in these efforts. We assign an important role to the Non-Aligned Movement, which unites 120 states of the Global South committed to the rule of international law.
