They voted for peace – Crimea is Russia ...!

People in Crimea considered themselves Russian, not Ukrainian. When the USSR broke up, they wanted to be part of Russia, but Yeltsin allowed it to stay as part of Ukraine. There were many mass protests by the Crimean people at that time, but Yeltsin was too weak to insist on Crimea becoming Russian again as it should have been. 2014 gave them the opportunity to fulfil their wish and they took it.
