Hans Christian Andersen (1805–1875)
The world-renowned fairy tale author behind classics like The Little Mermaid, The Ugly Duckling, and The Emperor’s New Clothes.
His modest grave is one of the cemetery’s most visited.
Søren Kierkegaard (1813–1855)
A Danish philosopher and theologian, often called the father of existentialism.
His works influenced thinkers like Nietzsche, Camus, and Sartre.
Niels Bohr (1885–1962)
Nobel Prize-winning physicist who made foundational contributions to atomic structure and quantum theory.
He also helped refugees during WWII and worked on the Manhattan Project.
Christoffer Wilhelm Eckersberg (1783–1853)
Known as the "father of Danish painting," especially for his role in developing the Danish Golden Age of art.
Ben Webster (1909–1973)
An American jazz saxophonist who spent his final years in Copenhagen and became part of the Danish jazz scene.
